The Master Certified Mortgage Servicer (CMS) Specialist Designation reflects competency in all three specialized areas of residential mortgage servicing: Loan Administration, Financial Controls & Investor Administration, and Default Administration. Complete each of these CMS Specialist Designation programs to earn your Master CMS designation.

Candidate Profile

  • Individuals with a minimum of four or more years experience in residential mortgage servicing.
  • Individuals who have completed all three tracks of the residential CMS Specialist Designation program.

Specialist Designation Requirements

Experience Level: Candidate must have four or more years residential mortgage servicing experience before enrolling in the Master CMS program.
Prerequisites: Candidate must complete all three CMS Specialist Designation tracks.
Education Requirement: No
Participation Requirement: No
Written Exam: No
Oral Exam: Yes
Continuing Education: Yes, every two years.

The Process

1. Enroll in the Master CMS program and submit a copy of your resume. You can enroll online, via mail, or fax. Once you enroll, you are a candidate.

2. Complete all three CMS Specialist Designation Tracks. You must complete the Loan Administration, Financial Controls & Investor Administration, and Default Administration CMS Specialist Designation tracks.

3. Pass the oral exam. Pass a half-hour oral exam via conference call given by a panel of mortgage servicing experts. You must register for this exam.

4. Get recognized. All Master CMS graduates will be recognized at the MBAs National Convention and Servicing Conference. Your photograph will be displayed and you will be asked to stand as your peers congratulate you on your success!

5. Complete continuing education. To remain in active status, Master CMS designees must complete five points of continuing education every two years. Continuing education points can be earned by successfully completing one of the applicable servicing courses not previously taken or by attending MBA conferences and/or conventions. Prior to the end of the two-year period, designees must complete the Designation Continuing Education reporting Form and submit $100 re-accreditation fee.
